What is UNIO?

UNIO is an initiative to build a different relationship between businesses, customers and the people doing the work.

Its guiding principle is simple: the people who make a system work should benefit from the value they help create.

UNIO is being developed in Liverpool by its founder, Cae Schlick. It is a proposed business system, not a political party, an investment product or an operating profit-distribution scheme.

What is UNIO trying to change?

In a conventional business, customers provide revenue and workers deliver value, but the resulting profits primarily belong to the owners. UNIO is exploring a different arrangement: one where businesses remain commercially viable while sharing their success with the people who sustain them.

UNIO does not ask people to stop buying or reject commerce. The idea is to change what happens to the value generated after a transaction.

How is the proposed model intended to work?

The model under consideration proposes allocating half of distributable profits to participating customers according to their qualifying spending, and half to the workforce according to qualifying hours worked. These are design proposals, not current entitlements or guaranteed returns. Final rules, legal structure, eligibility and accounting arrangements have not yet been established.

What does the founder mean by non-extraction?

UNIO's founding intention is that an owner should not take business profits simply by virtue of ownership. Reasonable pay for actual work is a separate matter. The aim is for value to remain available to strengthen services or benefit the people who participate in making them successful.

Why Liverpool?

Liverpool was chosen as the starting point for its balance of scale and community, its history of solidarity and its practical understanding that good intentions must be supported by systems that work.

What stage is UNIO at?

UNIO is currently an initiative in development. Its website introduces the concept and invites expressions of interest from potential customers, service providers, venture builders, partners and supporters.

Registering interest does not establish membership, ownership, eligibility for distributions or any right to profits. Services, membership arrangements and profit sharing are not represented here as already operational.

How can I learn more?
